What's New?

English Cocker Spaniel Puppy and English Setter Puppy

Calypso news for 2008 is listed below.

12/13/2008 - I went to a dog show last weekend and didn't do very well, but Bonnie went RWB to a major entry in girls on Sunday with Calypso Inspiration Strikes, Ivy. The weekend before that, Sophie and Neil went to an agility trial and earned the first leg towards Sophie's Novice Agility title. She came home and promptly came in to season, so she will not be at another agility trial for a month or so.

We had Sienna, Quinlan's Burnt Sienna RN OA OAJ OF, here visiting last week. Sienna is owned by Deb StMyers and is a daughter of our liver dog, Ryan. She was bred to Ch Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, Jack. More information can be seen on our Puppies page.

11/19/2008 - I have some news to share from last weekend's shows. Last Saturday and Sunday, Neil showed Marcus and Wincent at the rally obedience trials in Monroe, WA. Marcus and Wincent both qualified on Saturday and Sunday, so they each need one more qualifying score before they earn their Novice Rally titles.

Jennifer Vandecar showed Chloe, Calypso Can't Catch Me, in Novice Rally at the same show on Saturday and qualified to earn Chloe's third (and final) leg toward her RN title. Congratulations, Jennifer and Chloe, on your new title!

Also, in Concord, North Carolina, Calypso's The Black Pearl, Legend, went WB/BOW for 2 points on Saturday and WB for 1 point on Sunday.

We did some health testing while at the show in Monroe. Calypso's Gemini Girl, Ginger, had a CERF test done and is CERF Clear. Mocha, Terigen Larkspur Chocolatte, had a BAER test done and a CERF test done and is Normal/Clear for both.

I also received news from Bonnie Kost that Jack's OFA results came back and he has Hips OFA Good, Elbows OFA Normal and Patellas OFA Normal.

11/09/2008 - Jack, Ch Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, qualified in Rally Novice on Saturday and Sunday. Congratulations to Bonnie and Jack!!!

10/31/2008 - Last Saturday, at the Vancouver Kennel Club show in Ridgefield, WA, Calypso Eveready Mischief, Finn, went Winners Dog and Best of Winners to finish his Championship. Congratulations to Finn and also to his owner/handler, Melissa Olivas. This was the first dog that Melissa has handled to a Championship, so it is a very special accomplishment. At this same show, Ivy, Calypso Inspiration Strikes, owned by Bonnie Kost and myself, went RWB owner handled by Bonnie.

10/22/2008 - Bonnie Kost and I travelled to the NorCal English Cocker specialty shows in Pleasanton, California last week. I left here on a Wednesday, stayed overnight at Bonnie's house in Portland, and then we made the long drive from there to Pleasanton on Thursday. We showed Friday-Monday and had a great time. Jack, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, went Winners Dog on Sunday under judge Sandy Olsen to finish his Championship. This was his forth major win. Jasmine, Calypso's Hooligan, won her Bred By Exhibitor class on two of the three days she was shown. Overall, it was a great weekend. Our dogs did well, the fairgrounds were lovely, and the weather was fabulous.

09/27/2008 - Finn went WD/BOW/BOB for 1 Point at the Richland Kennel Club show in Kennewick, WA. He now has 14 points! Congratulations to his owner/handler, Melissa Olivas.

09/22/2008 - We went to the Gig Harbor Kennel Club shows this weekend in Shelton, WA. On Saturday, Calypso's Hidden Halo, Halo, went WD/BOW/BOB for a 3 point major. He was BOB over several specials. He was handled by his co-owner, Jennifer Vandecar. This is Halo's first major win and the first major that Jennifer has put on a dog. The judge was Mrs. Janice K. Schreiber. I appreciate how she looks at the dog and not who is handling!! My liver roan girl, Mocha, was Reserve Winners to the major in girls handled by myself. On Sunday, I showed my little Lexi-Lou, who was also Reserve Winners to a major in girls.

Also, last weekend Melissa Olivas took Finn and Gina to shows in Wenatchee, WA. Finn was Reserve Winners Dog on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday Melissa's two daughters, Tatum and Triniti, showed Finn and Gina in a Junior Showmanship fun match. Tatum, handling Finn, placed first in her class of four.

08/18/2008 - Some news from the CECSF specialty show and two supported entry shows. Our dogs who were entered did very well, always placing in their classes. Jack and Ivy won their classes all three days,  Halo won his class on Saturday and Sunday and Gina won her class on Saturday. Finn, Calypso Eveready Mischief, owned by Melissa Olivas, went Winners Dog on Saturday and Sunday for back to back 4 point majors. This places him very close to finishing his championship. He now needs just two singles to finish. I will add the photos of his majors to his page as soon as I get them. He is looking very handsome and moved so well this weekend. He is really starting to get this "show dog" stuff down, which is great as his future plans include Junior Showmanship competition with Melissa's young daughter.

Also, after the show on Sunday I took Jasmine and Marcus to a CERF testing clinic on the show grounds. Jennifer took her Halo as well. All three passed their CERF exam.

08/07/2008 - I just heard that Ryan's daughter, Sienna, went WB/BOS last Saturday for 1 point. Congratulations to Sienna and her owner, Deb St. Myers. Also, Howard, Calypso's Hollywood Drama, went WD/BOW on Sunday for 1 point. Congratulations to Howard and his owner, Melinda McKinley. These wins were at the Mt. Palomar Kennel Club shows in Vista, California.

07/21/2008 - We received results for a few Optigen PRA tests that we sent in recently. We tested Halo, Jasmine and Lexi. Halo came back Normal/Clear. Jasmine and Lexi both came back as Carriers. Just a little more information to help us make good breeding choices.

07/11/2008 - I wanted to share that Calypso's Hollywood Drama, Howard, was RWD on Thursday, July 3rd, at the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Southern California specialty show under judge Linda C More. He also went RWD on Friday, July 4th, at a show supported by the English Cocker Spaniel Club of Southern California and also RWD on Saturday, the 5th, at a show supported by the California Central Coast English Cocker Spaniel Club. Both of these shows were 4 point majors in boys.

07/01/2008 - Howard, Calypso's Hollywood Drama, went WD/BOW in Long Beach, California, last weekend for one point. Congratulations to Howard and his owner, Melinda McKinley. Also, Sienna qualified in Rally Novice B last Sunday with a 97 out of a possible 100 and 2nd place! This finished her Rally title, so she is now Quinlan's Burnt Sienna RN OA OAJ NF. Congratulations to Sienna and her owner, Deb St. Myers. We are really proud to see Ryan's daughter doing so well in the performance ring.

06/29/2008 - Ryan's daughter, Quinlan's Burnt Sienna OA OAJ NF, earned her second Rally Novice leg yesterday. Congratulations to Sienna and her owner, Deb St Myers!

06/24/2008 - I went to a dog show in Canby, Oregon this last weekend. I showed Calypso's Hooligan, Jasmine, in conformation and she went WB for a point on Sunday. Jennifer went to the show as well and showed Calypso's Hidden Halo, Halo, in conformation. He went RWD Saturday and Sunday. She also showed Calypso Can't Catch Me, Chloe, in Rally Novice B. Chloe qualified both days, placing 2nd on Saturday and 1st on Sunday. Congratulations, Jennifer and Chloe, as that is quite an accomplishment your first weekend out in the performance ring together!

Here is a video of Jennifer and Chloe on Saturday:

Also, here is a photo of Cammie, Calypso Golden Gait Grandeur, owned by Debbie Owczarzak and Mike Alper taken when she went WB/BOW/BOB a couple of weeks ago. A very pretty girl!!

06/15/2008 - Calypso Cause I Can, Lovey, went WB Saturday and Sunday for two more points towards her Championship. Congratulations to Lovey and her Owner/Handler, Terry Jent!!

06/09/2008 - I just heard that Cammie, Calypso Golden Gait Grandeur, went WB/BOW/BOB for her first point yesterday. Congratulations to Cammie and to her owners Mike Alper and Debbie Owczarzak. Look below for Cammie's photo taken when she won her large 9-12 month sweepstakes class at the 2008 ECSCA National Specialty.

06/07/2008 - Jack, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, went WD/BOW for 3 points. Taffy, Calypso's Element Of Attraction, went WB for 3 points. Jack and Taffy now both have 12 points. Jack has 3 major wins and Taffy has 2 major wins. They are both 19 months old and are both sired by our red dog, Wincent, Ch Lagromi Play It Again.

05/20/2008 - Last Saturday, Calypso's Chasing The Wind, Chase, went WD/BOS for 1 point in Jacksonville, TN. On Sunday he went RWD. Congratulations to his owner, Shannon Bishop, who had this to say about Chase "we've been clicker training and he catches onto everything lightning quick and he is such a super sweet boy."

05/11/2008 - Calypso's Hollywood Drama, Howard, went WD and BOW today for his first point at the Cabrillo Kennel Club show in Del Mar, California! Congratulations to Howard and his owners, the McKinley Family. Howard went RWD yesterday, his very first time in the show ring!

05/10/2008 - Jack went WD/BOW today for 1 pt in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Congratulations to his owner/handler, Bonnie Kost. Great job!

05/08/2008 - I just received the following news from Deb St. Myers about Ryan's daughter, Sienna - Sienna finished her last leg of her Novice Fast title with 3 clean runs and 3 first places. Then placed first in Ex. Standard (1st leg) with a clean run....with a belly flopper onto the table...Although she recovered with a wiggly tail and a big stretch as if she planned it. Finally she earned her first leg in EX. Jumpers with another clean run and another 1st place.. What a great weekend. Congratulations to Deb and Sienna. We are really proud of you both! Sienna has also been Optigen tested recently for PRA and FN and is Normal/Clear on both. Great news!

Also, Jack, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, went WD today in Klamath Falls, Oregon, for 1 pt. Congratulations to Jack and his owner/handler, Bonnie. That makes a total of eight points, including both majors for Jack.

05/04/2008 - Calypso Eveready Mischief, Finn, went WD for 1 point in Elma, Washington handled by his owner, Melissa Olivas. Congratulations to Melissa and Finn!

New photos on Marcus' and Jack's pages.

04/28/2008 -  Jennifer and I took some of our dogs to Marymoor Dog Park last Friday. I created a gallery of the photos I took while we were there and added a link to them on the Photo Gallery page. Pictured are Jennifer's three, Chloe, Halo and her golden retriever, Sadie, and most of my crew. Also, the owners of Chase, from the I Litter, have added some photos to his personal website. Click here to visit his site: Chase's Website

04/24/2008 - I finally added pages for the two newest members to our household. Lexi, Flyers Queens, flew here from Kennel Flyers in Finland at the age of 6 months. Other than my Sophie, I can't remember ever having been this in love with a dog. Lexi is super friendly, cheerful, funny, outgoing, etc. I just *love* her! Everyone should have a dog this charming and funny at some time in their lives (-: Our other newest member will be a surprise to those of you who don't know about her. We have our first parti-color, a lovely, chunky liver roan girl who Neil has named Mocha. She is very smart and very food driven. She is a super prospect for performance and Neil will have a blast training for and competing with her in agility, I am sure. Her registered name will be Terigen Larkspur Chocolatté.

04/23/2008 - Most of the pages on this website have been updated. There are new photos on the Gallery of Boys and Gallery of Girls pages and also on many of the dogs' individual pages.

04/21/2008 - Our last day of shows (it was so nice to finally head home!) Halo, Calypso's Hidden Halo, was WD, BOW and BOB. Chloe, Calypso Can't Catch Me, was WB/BOS and Calypso's Golden Attraction, Gina, went RWB. My dogs were all tired and ready to go home, where they have room to run and play with their toys and friends. They did win a few new dog toys, which they were quite happy about. One has already been de-stuffed by Jasmine, our resident toy killer (-:

04/20/2008 - Day 3 of our four day dog show weekend (-: Wincent went BOB, Finn went WD, Halo was RWD, Jasmine was WB, BOW, and BOS, and Chloe was RWB.

04/19/2008 - Another day of dog shows. Wincent was Best of Breed, Calypso Eveready Mischief, Finn, was Winners Dog and Best Of Winners, Calypso's Hidden Halo, Halo, was RWD, Calypso's Hooligan, Jasmine, went WB/BOS and Calypso Can't Catch Me, Chloe, was RWB. Jasmine also was Best Bred By Exhibitor and went Group 4 in the Bred by Exhibitor Sporting Group.

There was a puppy match after the show and I entered our little red girl from Finland, Lexi, to see how she would do. She had a blast and absolutely *loves* dog shows. She went Group 2 in the puppy sporting group behind a very cute golden retriever puppy. She moved beautifully, wagged her tail the whole time, and overall really enjoyed the experience. She will make her debut in a "real" show soon and I hope she does as well then!

04/18/2008 - We attended a dog show in Lewiston, Washington. Wincent went Winners Dog, Best Of Winners, and Best Of Breed and won the final point he needed to finish his Championship. He is now Ch Lagromi Play It Again. He is practicing a little obedience and will be in the Novice Rally ring this fall (-: Reserve WD went to Calypso's Hidden Halo, WB was Calypso's Golden Attraction, Gina, and RWB was Calypso Can't Catch Me, Chloe. Gina also went best puppy and Group 2 in the puppy Sporting Group.

04/12-13/2008 - We went to dog shows in Moses Lake this weekend. Wincent, Lagromi Play It Again, went Winners Dog for 1 pt on Saturday and 1 pt on Sunday. He now needs just one more point to finish his Championship! Finn, Calypso Eveready Mischief was RWD both days. Gina, Calypso's Golden Attraction, was WB and BOW both days for her first two points. She had a hard time keeping four on the floor, but she had fun (-: Look below to see a photo of my handsome Winnie-The-Pooh!

03/19/2008 - Portia's pedigree and a photo of her sire have been added to her page.

03/13/2008 - The links on the F litter page are finally working. They have not worked since I uploaded this version of our website as a few pages didn't get transferred when we made the change to the new site. I also transferred our 2006 News page.

03/12/2007 - Sophie's puppies are all in their new homes. Here is a link to Green Boy, Ian, now called Chase's web page: Following Chase

Calypso Can't Catch Me, Chloe, passed her Canine Good Citizen test. Way to go, Chloe! Chloe is owned by Jennifer Vandecar and is a half sister to my Sophie.

I received this great photo of Roxanne, who lives in California with her owner, Nancy Asner. Roxanne is from our H Litter.

And another great photo from Cory and Frasier! Spoiled?... you tell me (-:

Last, but not least, Gina and Jack. Gina went to play with Jack at Bonnie's house for two weeks and had a great time! This is a photo Bonnie sent of them playing.

03/02/3008 - Marcus went Winners Dog, Best Of Winners and Best Of Opposite Sex for 5 points! This finished his Canadian Championship. Sophie qualified in Rally for her 3rd Rally Novice leg with a score of 96 out of a possible 100. This finished her Canadian Rally Novice title!

03/01/2008 - Marcus went Best In Puppy Sweeps and Reserve Winners Dog at the BC Cocker Specialty show. Sophie went High In Trial with a score of 196 from the Novice B Class for her first Can CD leg. She also qualified again in Rally for her second Rally leg. Taffy went 1st in both her regular 12-18 mth class and her sweepstakes class.

02/29/2008 - Marcus went Winners Dog for 2 points at the Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers Of BC show in Cloverdale. Sophie qualified in Novice Rally with 2nd place and a score of 95 for her first Canadian RN leg.

02/27/2008 - I have two photo albums of my Sophie puppies to share: Sophie Puppies 7 Weeks, Sophie Puppies Playing.

I also wanted to share these photos of Taffy taken at her first fun match in April of 2007. I think she was about 5 1/2 months old. I can't believe Marcus and Taffy are almost 16 months old. They grew up too fast )-: They had to be the cutest puppies I have ever had.

02/21/2008 - Lovey now has her own page. Wincent, Jack and Sophie have all had new photos added to their pages.

02/13/2008 - The puppies had baths and their first haircuts tonight. Here are their photos at 5.5 Weeks: I Litter - 5.5 Weeks I cannot even begin to describe how lovely it is to only have four puppies. I am enjoying this litter so much. They are a very friendly and funny group of puppies. Irving is so, so funny, very chunky with a healthy appetite. He is always groaning when having his hair cut or getting his nails trimmed, but does not pull away at all. Ian reminds me of his mom (my darling Sophie who I adore!) and I think will be the best of the two boys for performance. I think the two girls will be my picks in the litter for show. They are both really lovely. I have a hard time deciding which I like best. I can't wait until they are a week or two older and I can see a bit more of how they will turn out.

02/11/2008 - Neil took a few of our dogs to Albany, Oregon for two days of shows this weekend. I stayed home with the puppies, who turned 5 weeks old on Friday. On Saturday, Neil showed Wincent and Taffy. Wincent went Winners Dog for a 3 point major and Taffy went RWB. On Sunday, Neil showed Marcus and Taffy. Marcus went Winners Dog and Best Of Opposite Sex, Taffy went Winners Bitch, Best Of Winners and Best Of Breed! They both won 2 points. These points finished Marcus' Championship, so he is now Ch Calypso's Element Of Surprise. Also, Marcus and Taffy's half brother, Jack, went Reserve Winners Dog. Thank you to judges Karen Ericson and Sandy Olsen for these nice wins!

01/30/2008 - Here is a cute video clip I wanted to share. I hope it works. If you have time, send me an e-mail and let me know how it works for you (too slow, didn't work at all, etc.)

First, I want to say #1 Obviously, we do not park our cars in the garage (-: It is an area devoted almost completely to our cockers. #2 English Cockers create their own Rainy Day entertainment, and thank goodness they do, since we live in the rainy Pacific Northwest. #3 I put my BA in Elementary Education to good use these days. My dogs think I know the very best games (-:

Rainy Day Play

Okay, here is another video clip. This one turned out at a larger upload size, so I have no idea how well this will work. Let me know how it works for you!

Rainy Day Play 2

01/29/2008 - I added a page for Ginger and I also added a gallery of photos to the Photo Gallery page. The photos were taken on a Friday in December of 2007 when Jennifer and I took our dogs to the dog park in the Lakewood / Tacoma area. The dogs had fun, but I spent all afternoon bathing them (-: Pictured are Marcus, Jasmine, Gina, Casey, and Jennifer's three, Chloe, Halo, and her golden retriever, Sadie. I made the gallery while experimenting with the photo gallery feature on Adobe Photoshop. I was not impressed with how the gallery turned out (the photos are too small), but I decided to include it on my photo gallery page anyway.

01/28/2008 - We have snow (our first snow fall of the year)!! My dogs are beyond thrilled and spent several hours this morning playing in the snow. Check out our Snow Album to see photos of Bella, Marcus, Taffy, Gina and Jasmine playing in the snow. There are five pages of photos, so take a look at them all. There are some cute shots of Gina on the teeter and of the whole group wrestling together. They had a really good time and have been sleeping all afternoon.

01/25/2008 - New photos of our January litter have been uploaded. They are looking sooo cute. I am in love with the little No Collar Boy (what a mushy face) and with the little black girl. They are all really cute, healthy, and keep me very entertained. Sophie is still very in love with them and will lay in their box with them and lick their little faces. Sophie's Litter

01/23/2008 - The photo from Marcus' win at Puyallup has been added to his page. Jasmine's 8 week photos were added to her page and many other pages have been updated as well.

01/21/2008 - Jack, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, went WD for a 3 pt major win handled by his owner, Bonnie Kost. Congratulations, Bonnie!!!

01/19/2008 - Jasmine, Calypso's Hooligan, went RWB from the 6-9 mth class under judge Bud Didonato.

01/18/2008 - Marcus went WD/BOW for his 4th major win under judge Desmond J Murphy. Jack, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events, was RWD. Gina, Calypso's Golden Attraction, was RWB from the 6-9 mth class her very first time in the show ring!

01/11/2008 - Today Marcus, Calypso's Element Of Surprise, went Winners Dog in Puyallup, Wa for a 3 point major. This is his 3rd major win!

01/04/2008 - We started the new year with a new litter. My lovely Sophie, Am/Can Ch Calypso Audacity Strikes CD RN WD, gave birth to four beautiful babies. We had 2 black boys, 1 black girl and 1 red girl. They are so lovely and chunky. Here is a link to photos of the new babies: Sophie's Puppies.
