What's New?

Calypso news for 2007 is listed below.

Friday, December 7, 2007. Wow, this last month has just flown by. I took Sophie to a UKC show two weeks ago so that we could try one out. It was the first UKC show I had ever been to. It was a lot like a really large puppy match. There were four shows in two days and that was probably the best thing about the weekend. They also give out very nice ribbons. I recommend it for practice with handling or for practicing with young dogs, but it wasn't worth the time unless you need to practice. Sophie had fun, though, and I was able to socialize some puppies. She was the only English Cocker, but earned Group placements at each of the shows and based on those wins, she finished her UKC Championship. You can read about UKC at www.ukcdogs.com

Our Puppy Questionnaire is now available in an electronic format. If you fill it out, please send me an e-mail at calysoecs@yahoo.com to let me know, as I want to make sure it is working properly.

Saturday, October 13, 2007. We recently returned from the English Cocker Spaniel Club Of Canada National Specialty show in Cloverdale, BC where we had a great time!! Our lovely red girl, Bella, went Winners Bitch at the National to finish her Canadian Championship. She is now Am/Can CH Eden Hills Attraction. Now it is on to performance events for her. Our other brag is that our black dog, Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events "Jack", who is co-owned with Bonnie and Larry Kost won his Bred By Exhibitor class at the National and then went on to win Winners Dog/Best Of Winners at the All Breed show the afternoon after the National. That win gave him 5 points towards his Canadian Championship!! Thanks for letting us borrow him for these shows, Bonnie!

Wednesday, July 4, 2007. Happy 4th of July!! Here is a link to view some photos of our most recent trip to the dog park: Dog Park Photos

Also, here is a link to join a Yahoo Group that I currently moderate called English Cocker Spaniel Fanciers. It is geared more towards the pet owner. If you are a serious breeder/exhibitor, you would probably enjoy the ECFanciers list more, but this list is great for owners wanting to chat about their English Cockers or for anyone who does not own an English Cocker that would like to get more information about the breed.

Sunday, July 1st, 2007. Bella's puppies are 2 Weeks old today. You can see photos of them taken today by clicking here: G Litter 2 Weeks.

Neil took Taffy (Calypso's Element Of Attraction) and Marcus (Calypso's Element Of Surprise) to a dog show in Oregon the weekend of June 23rd and 24th, while I stayed home to puppy sit. Marcus went Winners Dog and Best of Winners both days and Taffy went Winners Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex on Saturday and Reserve WB on Sunday. Not too bad for 7 month old puppies!!

Sophie whelped her litter on Tuesday, June 26th. She had 3 Red Boys, 1Red Girl, 2 Black Boys and 1 Black Girl. Sadly, we lost one of the black boys shortly after birth.

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007. I have quite a bit of news to share. First, Bella whelped her litter on Sunday, June 17th. She has five red girls and four red boys. They are beautiful puppies and we can't wait to see how they turn out! Second, one of Bella's puppies from her previous litter, Calypso's Embrace The Moment "Teagan", went to a show with his owner Cheyenne Schlect this last weekend. Cheyenne showed him in Junior Showmanship and won her class twice. Teagan is only seven months old. We are really impressed as this shows how much she has worked with Teagan and also what a superb handler she is. Way to go, Cheyenne!! Also, Teagan went Winners Dog twice handled by Cheyanne to earn his first two points towards his championship.

A very tired Bella and her nine puppies on Sunday, June 17th.

Monday, June 4, 2007. We went to a dog show Saturday in Yakima, WA. It was soooo hot!!! We did pretty well, so I won't complain too much (-: Wincent went Winners Dog for 2 pts towards his Championship and Sophie qualified in Rally for her 3rd leg towards her Rally Novice title. Sophie is now Am/Can CH Calypso Audacity Strikes CD RN WD. She will be out in the obedience ring this fall after her puppies have been weaned working towards her CDX. My goal is to have her ready for Open at our Cascade Specialty Show in August.

Thursday, May 31, 2007. Last weekend Lovey, Calypso Cause I Can, went WB/BOS on Saturday in Cincinnati, OH, for 1 pt and then went WB/BOW/BOS on Sunday for another point. Congratulations to her owner, Terry Jent! Marcus has his own web page now. Click here to see it: Marcus.

Friday, May 25, 2007. Lots of news to share! This last weekend our 6 month old Wincent/Bella son, Marcus, had lots of success in Canada his first weekend out at an All Breed show. He went Winners dog, Best of Winners, and Best of Breed on Saturday!! He went on to win Best Puppy In Sporting Group under judge John Rowton. On Sunday, Marcus went Winners Dog again for a total of 5 pts. Bella was also shown and was WB/BOW on Monday for 2 pts.

We have some new information on our puppies page about our upcoming litters.

Sunday, May 6, 2007. Taffy, Calypso's Element Of Attraction, went WB/BOW/BOS her first weekend out in the show ring for 2 pts. We are so proud of her!!! Also, I have a photo I want to share of Calypso's Fortunate Series Of Events "Jack" who lives in Oregon and is owned by Bonnie Kost. We think he is a handsome boy! Jack is out of Quinlan Calypso Dark Angel "Maxine" and sired by Lagromi Play It Again "Wincent."

Tuesday, May 1, 2007. This last Saturday we showed at the Walla Walla Kennel Club show. Portia, Calypso's Don't Make Me Beg, went WB/BOW for 1 pt. She also was Best Bred By Exhibitor and Bred By Exhibitor Sporting Group 4. We also entered our puppies in the puppy match that was 1/2 hour after Best In Show. Taffy surprised us all with her showy attitude, which earned her BOB over her brothers and then Sporting Group 1 in the puppy match. It was very cute watching her in the ring with Neil, whom she adores. We didn't enter Sunday as we wanted to visit with family that we have in Eastern WA. I have included some pictures of the Wincent/Bella puppies below. I'm working on figuring out how to add some short video clips to my website so that you can see them in action!

I found a great site yesterday listing classes in the Pacific Northwest area: http://members.aol.com/daynakin/page1.html

Also, thanks Bonnie for sharing this neat site: http://www.showdays.info/

Friday, April 13, 2007. We took Bella and Wincent to Canada last weekend for a few shows. Wincent went WD on Friday for 1 pt and Bella went WB on Saturday for 2 pts. We had a photo taken of Wincent as he is now looking so much more grown up. You can see his new photo on his webpage. My two Wincent/Bella puppies who are growing up here are looking lovely. They will both be making their show debuts in May. I'll try to add some stacked photos of them to my News page within the next few days.

Tuesday, April 3, 2007. Sophie's new CD photo arrived!

Thursday, March 22, 2006. I have just added some photos of my puppies out on a clipped wing pigeon for the first time. Click here to see them: Puppies N Birds.

Thursday, March 15, 2007. I have a lot of news to share. I haven't been keeping this site up to date recently as I have been out of town for almost three weeks. I visited an English Cocker specialty in SC and one in WI and had a great visit with Debbie O. Thanks so much, Debbie, for having me for such a long visit! You can check out Debbie's website at www.goldengaitecs.com

Sophie traveled with me and, while on our trip, she earned 3 legs towards her CD and finished her title, earning High Scoring English Cocker at an ECSCA supported entry show. She won a neat little plaque and a dog bed, which she loves! She was also entered for one day of Rally Novice and she qualified in that as well.

While I was out of town, Neil stayed at home to take care of the canine crew. He took Bella to a Canine Good Citizen Test on Friday, March 2, 2007, which she passed.

On March 11, after I returned from my trip, Neil and I entered one day of Rally Novice with Bella and Sophie. They both qualified, so Bella earned her first leg towards her RN title and Sophie earned her 2nd leg. We plan to do Rally with them both at the Puyallup shows in June.

March 11th was also a great day for a couple of puppies that we bred. Anita and Paul Pennell's Calypso The Black Pearl "Legend" went WB/BOW/BOS for a 3 pt Major in SC at the Hilton Head Kennel Club show and Shannon Bishop's Calypso's Chasing The Wind "Chase" won his first point at the Nashville Kennel Club show in TN. Legend is out of our Jiffy x Sophie litter and Chase is out of our Jiffy x Mandy litter. Congratulations to both Anita and Shannon. We wish you the best of luck with your puppies!
