What's New?
Calypso news for 2006 is listed below.
Tuesday, November 21, 2006. New photos of Bella's puppies added to their webpage: Bella's Puppies. The puppies will be three weeks old tomorrow!!
Monday, October 23, 2006. Our little Lovey is now in her new home. JJ, pictured below, will be leaving for his new home soon. The house will be empty without them, but fortunately we will still have our wild little Portia here to keep us entertained. Portia is our "keeper" puppy sired by CH Daisymead's Powerplay and out of Am/Can CH Calypso Audacity Strikes. She will be out in the show ring in January! Also, we have updated Wincent's webpage with some great new photos.
Saturday, September 30, 2006. We currently have a solid black male puppy available to a show home. He is called JJ and he is 4.5 months old. His sire and dam are both Optigen A, OFA Good and CERF Clear. Here is JJ at 4.5 months.
Also, I have updated many pages on our website including our Agility page. I need to work on a page for Tracking, as that is our current pursuit. Looking for something fun to do with your English Cocker Spaniel?? Try Tracking!! It has been a big hit with the cocker crew here. Most English Cockers are chow hounds and Tracking is taught with food!
Happy Birthday, Sienna!!! What a happy dog. Thanks, Deb, for sharing this great picture.
Sunday, September 24, 2006. We had Bella entered at the Gig Harbor KC shows this weekend, just in case she didn't finish at the Wenatchee shows. Bella was our only entry, but we decided to move her up and show her anyway, just for fun (-: Bella went Best of Breed on Saturday and Best Of Opposite Sex on Sunday. This was Bella's first weekend out as a special and we were incredibly proud of these results!!
Monday, September 18th, 2006. We had a wonderful weekend at the Wenatchee Kennel Club dog shows. Saturday, Bella went WB for 1 pt and Sophie went BOB. Sunday, Wincent went WD/BOS for 2 pts, Bella went WB/BOW for 2 pts and Sophie went BOB. The 3 pts Bella earned this weekend finished her Championship. She is now CH Eden Hills Attraction. There was a puppy match in the evening on Saturday and one of our young puppies, Lovey, took a Sporting Group 4 in the match. Also, I neglected to post the news that Ryan finished his OAJ title two weeks ago. He just needs one more leg for his OA title.
Lovey Age 16 Weeks
Friday, August 18, 2006. We had a great day at the Cascade English Cocker Spaniel Fanciers regional specialty show!! Our red boy, Wincent, was Best Of Opposite Sex in Puppy Sweeps from the 12-15 mth class and Sophie was awarded an Award of Merit from a very large entry of specials. We were thrilled with these wins. Also, we went to an All Breed show last Sunday, August 13th, for some practice before the Specialty. Wincent was WD for 1 pt and Sophie was BOS over a nice bitch entry. Not too bad for our first trip back into the conformation ring after a two month break. Sophie has a litter of ten week old puppies and we had several compliments on the wonderful condition she is in for having had a litter so recently. We are keeping one of her little girls and we can't wait to get her out in the show ring in 2007.
Saturday, July 22, 2006. Ryan's daughter, Quinlan's Burnt Sienna, earned her first leg towards her Novice Agility Preferred title. She was handled by her owner, Deb St.Meyers. Way to go Deb and Sienna!
Thursday, July 6, 2006. New Puppy Pictures..... Puppies Age 7 Weeks
Sunday, July 2, 2006. Ryan was entered at an agility trial this weekend, handled by Neil, and he earned his second OA leg with a 1st Place and his second OAJ leg with a 2nd place. This was their first agility trial in over a year! They'll be out again at the Enumclaw trials in August.

Sunday, June 11, 2006. Bella went WB, BOW, and BOS for 3 pts under judge Nancy Gallant. Ryan's son, Mith, went WD for 3 pts. Bella is up to twelve points now and will take some time off from the show ring so that she can be shown at a Specialty show or two (after she has hopefully grown some hair) later this summer.
Saturday, June 10, 2006. Bella went WB and BOS for 3 pts at the Puyallup, WA show under judge Linda Reidel. We were so happy to see Bella take this win as she is completely naked after blowing all of her coat last month. We were thrilled to see the judge recognize Bella's quality, even without her "party clothes."
Saturday, May 20, 2006. Bella went WB at the Lynden, WA shows for 1 pt and Mith went WD for 1 point. Mith went WD again on Sunday for another point. I also want to share a great picture I recently received of Mandy taken at the Hunt Tests held over Labor Day weekend at Scatter Creek in 2006. Photo copyright Creative Indulgence.
Friday, May 12, 2006. Ryan's son, Quinlan The Legend Lives On "Mith" owned by Debbie Mendenhall, earned his third Rally Novice leg at the ECSCA National with a 2nd place win to finish his RN title. Ryan's sire, Am/Can Ch Raccoon's Oh Boy At Nohea VCD1 JH OA also finished his RN title at this show. There is some wonderful news from the ECSCA general membership meeting... it has been announced that the mutation causing FN has been found and we will have a test in about four months for this awful genetic disease. Woohoo!!
Thursday, April 27, 2006. Ryan's son, Quinlan The Legend Lives On, has earned his second Rally Novice leg. Congratulations to Mith and his owner, Debbie.
Thursday, April 20, 2006. Bella's page has been updated.
Friday, April 14, 2006. Mandy is expecting puppies in May. See our Puppies page for more information.
Wednesday, April 12, 2006. Today's news comes directly from the four footed inhabitants of our household. BARK.. Wooo Woo Woo. BARK. Translation: They have declared today GYDAB day and they wanted to share some of their favorite treats with you.
Give Your Dog A Bone!!
Wincent says, "MMMM tasty! Beef Ribs.. my favorite."
Bella says, "These things are hard to chew!"
Ryan loooves his raw cow hoof stuffed with beef tripe!
Bella says, "Hey, who stuck all this tasty food in this old cow hoof?"
Awww... this is the life.
On Sunday, April 9, 2006 we went to Centralia for another conformation show. Bella went WB for 1 pt and is now up to five points towards her US Championship. Wincent went RWD. The judge was Mrs. Christine E Pollender-Calcinari.
On Saturday, April 8, 2006 we went to Centralia, WA for a dog show. Bella went Winners Bitch for 1 pt and Wincent went Reserve Winners Dog. The judge was Ms. Patricia A Mowbray-Morgan.
We had a great three day weekend at the BC Cocker Specialty and the Kiwanis All Breed dog shows over the weekend of Friday, March 31, 2006 through Sunday, April 2, 2006. Sophie, Am/Can CH Calypso Audacity Strikes, went Best Of Opposite Sex Friday and Sunday at the All Breed Shows. She also went Best Of Opposite Sex at the BC Cocker Specialty held the afternoon of April 1st. Bella, Eden Hills Attraction, went WB and BOS for 2 pts on Saturday morning and then she also went WB that afternoon for 2 more points. Wincent, Lagromi Play it Again, went Best Of Opposite Sex to Best In Sweeps at the BC Cocker Specialty Puppy Sweepstakes. The cocker crew had a fun trip and won their favorite type of prizes- dog treats and dog toys! Wincent couldn't keep four paws on the floor in the show ring, but his puppy enthusiasm kept us very entertained. Pictured below is our grooming set-up at the show site after the BC Cocker Specialty. We were also grooming with Elizabeth K, owner and breeder of Am/Can Ch Kin Yama's Travelin' Trevor who went WD/BOW/BOB and finished his Can Championship. Congratulations to Trevor!!
On Sunday, March 26, 2006, we were back for a second day of shows held by the Peninsula Dog Fanciers Club in Bremerton. Bella went RWB again and a young dog sired by Ryan, Quinlan The Legend Lives On, went RWD and also earned his first leg towards his RN title!
On Saturday, March 25, 2006, we went to a show held by the Peninsula Dog Fanciers Club in Bremerton, WA. Wincent went Winners Dog, Best of Winners, and Best Of Breed over specials for 3 pts!!! He accomplished this at just eight months old and at his very first show. Our little red girl, Bella, went Reserve Winners to a three point major. They both were handled by Neil and showed wonderfully! The picture above shows Wincent being stacked in the Group ring.
Monday, March 20, 2006. I made the cocker crew their favorite training treats today and thought I would share the recipe:
Go Bananas Training Treats
3 Cups Oatmeal
1 1/4 Cups Flour
2 Eggs
1/4 Cup Oil
1/2 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Milk
2 Mashed Bananas
Blend liquid ingredients, eggs, and mashed bananas, making sure to mix well. Add flour and oatmeal. Mixture will be similar to cake mix. Spread into a well-greased pizza pan and bake at 325 degrees for about 25 minutes. Cut into tiny squares or strips using a pizza cutter. Keep refrigerated; store unused in freezer.~ Original Author Unknown
February has been a quiet month for us here at Calypso. We have been unpacking and settling into our home. I do have some new pictures of Wincent to share. He is pictured at age seven months below. Pictures were taken Monday, February 27, 2006.
During the last two weeks of January 2006 we will be moving into our new home. The human members of the family are quite happy to be making this move and I am sure the canine members will be equally happy once they are given the chance to check out our new space. We may not be able to attend many shows during January or February, but we will be back on the show scene soon!
On Tuesday, January 10, 2006, we got Sophie's health results back from OFA. She has OFA Good Hips, OFA Normal Elbows, and OFA Normal Patellas.
On Thursday, January 6, 2006, Bella flew in from UT to join our household. Bella is registered as Eden Hill's Attraction and was bred by Margarita Schiffman. She is fourteen months old and a complete sweetheart. Thanks, Margarita, for sending this special red girl to us.
There is news from the ECSCA meeting at ASC that the ECSCA voted to donate $55,000 to the ongoing research into a test for FN. There is also news that a test for FN may be available very soon! This is great news for anyone interested in this breed.
On Monday, January 2, 2006, we got Wincent's preliminary hip results back from OFA. Wincent came back as Preliminary OFA Good. Thanks again to his breeder, Maria Ingvarsson, for sending us this wonderful boy.
